Yaesu FT1DR/XDR

The Yaesu FT1D is a 144/430 MHz dual band digital handheld transceiver. The transceiver is equipped with a 66 channel GPS receiver and supports APRS functionality at both 1200 and 9600 bps. It also provides Dual Watch, Dual Monitor, GPS Logging and C4FM (System Fusion) digital mode.

Sending a Message

  1. From the main screen, press the F button and then 0 button to open Station List 
  2. Open the APRS message list by pressing the 0 button again
  3. Press the GM button to enter Message Edit
  4. Enter the callsign (SMSGTE
  5. You can change the SSID after pressing the ENT and use the selection knob to cycle from 1 to 16
  6. Press ENT again to start writing the message text
  7. As the beginning of the message, enter an @ symbol followed by the destination number and one space. HINT: For the @ symbol press 0 and use selection knob to cycle through symbols until you reach @ (it is between ? and A)  
  8. Press long ENT button in order to send the message.

Receiving a Message

When a message is received from SMSGTE, in can be viewed from the message list. To view the message, use the following steps:

  1. From the main screen, press the F button and then 0 button to open Station List 
  2. Open the APRS message list by pressing the 0 button again
  3. Use the selection knob to scroll through the messages
  4. Select the message to read by pressing ENT
  5. If you wish to reply to the message, press GM
  6. Follow the Sending instructions starting at step 6

Notes

  • If you already have messages in your list, the HT will copy the callsign and message text that message to the compose screen. You can save time by highlighting a previous message to SMSGTE and editing or clearing the message text.
  • If you are replying to the last message received from SMSGTE, it is not necessary to enter the telephone number or alias, just enter your message and send as long as it has been less than 24 hours since you received the message.
