Yaesu FT2D

The Yaesu FT2D is a 144/430 MHz dual band digital handheld transceiver with a touch screen display. The transceiver is equipped with a 66 channel GPS receiver and supports APRS functionality at both 1200 and 9600 bps. It also provides Dual Watch, Dual Monitor, GPS Logging and C4FM (System Fusion) digital mode.

Sending a Message

  1. From the main screen, press the FMW button to open the function menu
  2. Open the message list by pressing the M.LIST button
  3. Press the More button in the bottom right of the screen
  4. Enter the Message Edit screen by pressing MSG EDIT
  5. Press the More button in the bottom right of the screen
  6. Enter the callsign by pressing EDIT CS
  7. Using the on-screen letters enter the callsign SMSGTE
  8. Press the BACK button to return to the message screen
  9. If there is already messassage text, you can clear it:
    1. Press the More button
    2. Press CLR ALL
  10. Press the EDIT TXT button to enter the message
  11. As the beginning of the message, enter an @ symbol followed by the destination number and one space
  12. Enter the message text then press BACK when you’re done.
  13. Press M-TX to transmit the message

Receiving a Message

When a message is received from SMSGTE, it can be viewed from the message list. To view the message, use the following steps:

  1. From the main screen, press the FMW button to open the function menu
  2. Open the message list by pressing the M.LIST button
  3. Use the selection knob to scroll through the messages
  4. Select the message to read by pressing DISP
  5. If you wish to reply to the message, press REPLY
  6. Follow the Sending instructions starting at step 9, skipping step 11.

Notes

  • If you already have messages in your list, the HT will copy the callsign and message text that message to the compose screen. You can save time by highlighting a previous message to SMSGTE and editing or clearing the message text.
  • If you are replying to the last message received from SMSGTE, it is not necessary to enter the telephone number or alias, just enter your message and send as long as it has been less than 24 hours since you received the message.
  • On the FT2D, the More button is represented by 6 smaller buttons located in the bottom right of the screen
  • You can store common numbers, aliases and message text in memory and place them in your message with the M TXT button
